Considering that many students will relate to this video and feel offended, then I feel more than happy to share it with you because finally someone had let the truth out. And I don’t think that anything can stop me from posting this video UNLESS… the electricity is shut down, in that case. I’m screwed.
Regardless of the few students who are oppressed by the large and colossal amounts of students who oppress the minority and drag them into their world of Spoiled Brats who don’t want to waste their saliva and their brain cells to speak English in an ‘English Center’ as if Darija was some sacred language, then breaking news, it definitely is not and probably never will be. I know for a fact that even if we were deported to a parallel universe, in another planet, those students will remain the same, which is quite saddening and baffling and Darija won’t be put on a pedestal.
Even if this video and this whole speech sound quite ‘cliché’, it is a fact, that being brilliant here in Morocco is considered as something lame and something that nobody should be proud of because you’re not allowed to, and we’ve all either witnessed that or actually been through that. I don’t think that this whole phenomenon of speaking Darija will ever stop increasing unless someone finally makes them aware of the danger they’re not only putting themselves in but also the one that is encountering the brilliant students they’re dragging down. You won’t get a degree for mastering Darija or for speaking it wonderfully well, unless this firm is named The firm of retards corporation. People won’t ever take you seriously even if you are such a master of your… maternal language. I think that it is so lowbrow to waste not only your parents’ money but also your brain cells. I mean just in case you’re not planning on using them then you might as well give them as a donation to science to study what actually goes through your mind the second you walk in an English classroom and start speaking Arabic knowing that it’s not only forbidden but also incredibly and überly stupid.
While studying at the ALC, I’ve found that many students don’t bother speaking English because they either think it’s too hard or they’re either too ‘tired’… Speaking of which, have you ever heard that our educational system is the worst? And we’ve been wondering why since the dawn of time. I don’t think that this will get better unless you realize how much this whole situation stinks and sucks and finally start doing something about it, which is stop speaking Arabic and get out of your imaginary world where Darija is put on a pedestal because as a matter of fact, it isn’t.
